This is one of my favourite period rooms within the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. I can't see any gilding. What stands out is that lovely statue in the wall niche. It is one of two within the room. The book that this picture came from is called: PERIOD ROOMS in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have just checked again and everything that looks carved, with the exception of the plaster sculpture, is carved: pine: 'comparing favourably with high-quality Parisian work'. The original room did not 'live' in Paris but was originally part of a house in the seaport known as Bordeaux, in Southwest France. The room's colour is a soft gray-green, the effect is understated and highly livable.
